Welsh & Dutch Heels with Alissa Barton

The Welsh heel is a squared off heel turn with a slight bias to it. The decreases are centered to help

increase the durability of the underside of the heel.

The Dutch Heel is also squared off, with a slightly rounded back. It is very broad & well suited to

those with larger heels.

Both heels use a heel flap, heel turn & a gusset & are traditionally worked on cuff down socks.

You are welcome to knit sock cuffs ahead of time & then incorporate each heel onto a different sock

OR

You can simply cast on enough stitches to try the technique the day of class.

Experience Level - Intermediate

Skills Needed

• Suitable for sock knitters of any level.
• People who have never knit socks should be comfortable working in the round on a small circumference.

Supplies* Needed

• Bronwyn pattern - may purchase in store or from Ravelry directly at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bronwyn-7
• Wentletrap pattern - may purchase in store or from Ravelry directly at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wentletrap-3
• Students may either knit a sock cuff ahead or just bring odd amounts of any yarn and needles
• Stitch markers
• Knitting needles appropriate for the yarn selected.

Homework

• Students may opt to work a sock cuff & use that to turn their heels
• Swatch option - any leftover yarn is fine.

*Participants are welcome to use stash supplies; however, all class members get 10% off yarn & notions required for class.
