Get Yoked - Designing a Top-Down Sweater with Knitting Fairy

Sweaters knit in the round with a yoke collar are all over the internet. We will explore how to make one starting from the neck & working down, giving you the opportunity to customize the fit as you work which is a tremendous advantage when you are designing your own.

Alissa’s example (which we will go through step by step in class) features a lacy yoke worked in DK cotton with short sleeves … but if you do a little window-gazing on Ravelry you will find that yoke sweaters can be so much more! Colorwork, lace, cables, texture. Nothing is out of question once you understand the basic structure.

Experience Level: Intermediate/Advanced

SKILLS NEEDED

Cast on, Knit, Purl, Increase, familiar with gauge and how it works, short rows for shaping.

SKILLS LEARNED

Sketching your design, applying gauge to our design to get working numbers, stitch placement, multiples of stitch sets, basics of waist shaping, where and when to apply short rows.

MATERIALS NEEDED*

Needles and yarn to start your swatch. You will ultimately need a sweater quantity of the yarn you choose. Be aware that design will affect the quantity you need - BUY EXTRA!

- Ahead of class you will want to consider what kind of yarn you would like to use.

- Bring a variety of needles and stitch markers to your 1st class with your pre-selected yarn (just one ball, already wound).

*Class participants receive 10% off all class supplies from JuJu Knits, or you are welcome to bring yarn from your stash.

NOTE – Masks are now once again required at JuJu Knits, per CDC guidelines. All guests are still required to wash their hands upon entrance to the shop. No refunds - when you commit, so do we.
